Georgia Highlands Medical Services This premier community health center is committed to serving all people with compassion, dignity and integrity while providing excellent, affordable and integrated health care. All insurances are accepted; for those who are uninsured or low-income, fees are based on the size of family and family income. Legacy Link This local Area Agency on Aging serving 13 North Georgia counties is a valuable Aging and Disability Resource connection. Legacy Link helps connect people with services related to aging and disabilities. It provides help with Medicare, senior employment, volunteerism, wellness and assistive technology. It can help locate housing options such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities and personal care homes in the area. Another valuable service is leading seniors through the Medicare maze with their counseling program.

The Place While not specifically for seniors, many of The Place's services are relevant to seniors, including weekly food pantry services, financial assistance with items such as prescriptions and minor home repairs, volunteer-aided assistance such as lawn care or grocery delivery, and Medicaid and food stamps applications. Forsyth County Libraries Oor libraries are more than just a place to borrow books! All branch libraries offer unique active/senior adult programming, including book clubs, crafts, themed program series and guest speakers. All programming can be accessed from the website. Each branch has a wide variety of materials in its collection, including: • Active Adult kits are themed for patrons 55 and over to help navigate challenges unique to age and circumstances. • Remember When caregiver kits are themed for patrons caring for someone with memory loss or Alzheimer’s.
Unable to visit in person? "Mailbox Books" program can mail materials directly to your home and offers the convenience of receiving and returning materials in a postage-paid mail pouch. This service is open to Library patrons who reside in a nursing care or assisted living facility, whether temporarily or permanently.
The Outreach Services team also delivers services to senior living communities throughout Forsyth County. The mobile lobby stop service provides complete access to FCPL’s collection, including books, audiobooks, DVDs, magazines, and music CDs.
Golden Hour with the Library is an innovative and interactive program for individuals living in assisted care facilities. During these one-hour visits, seniors have the opportunity to participate and reminisce through multi-sensory stimulation with images, songs, games, object interaction, and interesting facts about each program’s topic and/or destination.
Georgia Mountain Food Bank There are many resources available to support food assistance in Forsyth and neighboring counties. A primary service is the Georgia Mountain Food Bank. The Georgia Mountain Food Bank’s (GMFB’s) mission is to address hunger, health and quality of life by serving those in need. An affiliate of Atlanta Community Food Bank, they provide a vital link between sources of food supplies and community-based partner agencies who help get the food into the hands of families and individuals in need. They serve a 5-county area that includes, Dawson, Forsyth, Hall, Lumpkin and Union Counties and support 70+ feeding partners. Anyone in need of food can contact the food bank directly to be connected to a local pantry or meal service that Georgia Mountain Food Bank supports in their designated area.
Local Food Pantries A list of Food Pantries in the area, mainly operated by local churches or other nonprofits, can be accessed in the Senior Resource Guide, a publication of the Forsyth County Resource Coalition.
Local Transportation
There are a couple of very low-cost services available to County seniors and others for local transportation. One is Access Forsyth (formerly Dial-a-Ride), which charges only $2 each way (in-county locations only).
Another is Ride-Share, a service managed by the non-profit Common Courtesy, which uses Uber or Lyft drivers. For this, you must have a smartphone and credit card; rides are $2 each way, plus a $15 one-time registration fee.
