Charles Place Seniors Center on Dahlonega Highway serves over 190 Meals-On-Wheels meals per day with the help of their staff and wonderful volunteers. Age Well Forsyth is providing carriers for hot meals to help expand this program. Age Well Forsyth will provide additional food to those seniors who require further food supplements. This new service will be coupled with current services which provide food for cats and dogs as well as personal hygiene products. The new Program called " Feeding Seniors" began December 2015. This program will provide an additional bag offood to seniors on the Meals-On-Wheels route which are in need. This food will be delivered by the volunteers and staff drivers already in place.
The need for this program was brought to Age Well's attention when a young college student, Lauren Timms, choose to provide additional food in this manner for a college project. Ms. Timms did "Treat Bags" in October for all Meals-On-Wheels routes. It was discovered then that around 27 people needed additional food. Most are elderly and some do not drive. This is a great year round "Christmas Project". We salute the volunteer drivers and note that more are always needed. Linda Ledbetter
